Why did Chris Collapse?
Mystery Solved: Alcohol Poisoning
The janitor found a bottle of vodka next to Chris that was nearly empty. Chris has a blood alcohol level of .20 (point two.) and weighs about 205 pounds, so this blood alcohol level is the equivalent of consuming 10 drinks in one hour. For his weight and age, this is above the safe lavel (if there is one) of alcohol consumption, which means that Chris is suffering from a very serious case of alcohol poisoning when too much alcohol is consumed at once. The alcohol floods the blood stream and disturbs all normal functions of the body including breathing, body temperature, and reasoning by affecting normal brain function. The symptoms of alcohol poisoning are confusion, vomiting, seizures, pale skin, irregular breathing, low body temperature, and of course, unconsciousness. That is why Chris collapsed. Doctors pumped out any remaining alcohol in his stomach to prevent it from being absorbed into the bloodstream and worsen his condition.
